Earlier in the year, Brian Millard secured an automated traffic count for the South Park Road Estate – to be positioned near the underpass. Given that there are only 185 houses on the estate, proving just how much traffic comes on would give us good evidence to get the police to act on enforcement.
Unfortunately, there was a delay (I don’t know why, and Brian’s sad death meant it wasn’t followed up as quickly as it would normally have been).
Now, I’m told, the count will soon be with us, so watch this space.
Not having that count hasn’t stopped us speaking to the police about improving enforcement on the estate. We haven’t got agreement yet, but we’re working on it and will continue to do so.

I am aware of the short cut through the South Park Road Estate, and realise that the residents must be annoyed at traffic going past their houses, but surely a better debate would be why so many people feel they have to take this shortcut. The access routes to the M60, especially west bound, are so poor for Kingsway residents north of the M60 that many would rather upsetting a few residents than battle the traffic all the way through Northenden or Stockport even before they can get on the motorway to work. If an access can be made from Kingsway southbound onto the M60 then I imagine a vast swath of traffic would be removed from the Gatley/Kingsway lights, and would prove to be a solution to several of the issues that I have read about on your pages
