I was sad to hear this afternoon that former Liberal and Lib Dem MP for Rochdale, Sir Cyril Smith, has died.
He was a larger than life character in many ways and will be sadly missed.

Met him once during the 1979 general election campaign. I was never quite sure how his very right-wing views fitted with the then views of the Libs – but what a character.
Never knew / met Big Cy, but, did see him once… catching a London train at Piccadilly… first class ofcourse !
Perhaps you could take a lead from him… no nonsense, free thinking, larger than life…!
