Councillors recommend fishing future for Abney Hall Park

by Lib Dem team on 15 October, 2010

Following a substantial amount of work from Council officers and local community groups, local councillors were pleased to support a proposal that the Stockport and District Anglers Federation manage and bailiff angling activities at Abney Hall Park pond off Newlands Road in Cheadle.

The pond has been used for fishing since 1988 and recent anti-social behaviour has brought this issue forwards.

Although in Cheadle, the pond is in Cheadle Hulme North ward and the local councillors June Somekh, Paul Porgess and John Pantall have been working hard on this issue.

I’d really welcome this. Recently local fellow walkers and I were discussing the lovely new boardwalk area over the new wetlands. The downside was that “yobs” have recently burnt down the two picnic bench/tables and we were concerned the boardwalk might go the same way. one of the walkers said there were plenty of good fish in the pond. More activity of the positive and right sort in the area may keep the spoilsports away – at least one can live in hope.
