Pam and I have received the following warning about an incident in Gatley:

Three males had offered to cut some trees down for older lady (97), they charged her £75 for the work, and then returned attempting to charge another £100 to remove all the debris.

She refused to pay, and contacted police.

The males returned later and dumped waste from other properties in her garden, making it inaccessible for her.

The three white males, spoke with Irish accents. One was aged in his 20s the other two aged between 40 – 50. They drove a small white van.

The advice is:
• Don’t do business or accept services from a cold caller on the telephone or at the door.
• Use reputable tradespersons list to get details of local trades people
• Always obtain three quotes
• When answering the door, always use a door chain, check who is there by looking through a window or door viewer and always ask for identification – IF IN DOUBT KEEP THEM OUT!
