Fly-tippers beware – we’re onto you

by Lib Dem team on 13 August, 2011

In case you thought fly-tipping was easy to get away with, be aware that local residents are quick to report it and the Council will always investigate it, and take action where possible.

Here’s some fly-tipping on Gatley Hill car park – looks like it’s from a decorating business or something like that. It was reported to me by a resident, I’ve been up and taken photos and passed the information onto the Council.

There’s no excuse – Longley Lane Tip is just a few hundred metres down the road and it doesn’t cost much to take commercial waste in. Please don’t make a mess of our community but, if you do, be aware that we’ll be looking for you.

You are not onto them – until you catch them !
Gatley Hill car park – a case for CCTV ?

    Hi Dave,

You’re right – and we do catch fly-tippers regularly.

We have a few cases of fly-tipping on Gatley Hill each year – I doubt it would be a good use of CCTV which is fairly expensive to install and maintain, but there are other methods of detecting the culprits which do work well and I’m hopeful will produce results in this case.

I can vouch for the fact that SMBC do act. I have reported fly tipping on at least two occasions in Brookfield Park and it’s always been dealt with quickly. On one occasion one of the two bags was left behind with the council’s note pasted to it “environmental crime. Do not remove” and their phone number.
Whether or not anyone got caught as a result, I don’t know, of course.

Quite a few times, a lot of bin bags appear next to the waste bin on pendlebury road. I assume this is one of the flats above the shops that is to blame, anychance this can be investigated as they can be there for quite a few days when it happens.
