Time to report faulty streetlights

by Lib Dem team on 18 August, 2011

Faulty streetlights can be reported at any time, of course, but as the nights start to draw in we want to make sure our roads are well lit before autumn arrives so please keep a look out if you’re out and about after dark.

The best way to report a streetlight is to make a note of the number on the column.

For example, we’ve reported light 17 on Silverdale Road and light 10 on Springfield Road today.

If you can’t see a number on the column (should be a clearly visible black number on a yellow background), then you can describe where the light is (e.g. “outside house number 45”).

The best way to report a problem – to make sure you’ve got all the details – is via the Council’s website. Go to www.stockport.gov.uk, click on “report it” and then “streetlighting, roadsigns, bollards, etc.“.

You can also email you report to streetscene@stockport.gov.uk or call 0161 217 6111.

It is a waste of time, I have reported two faulty lights on shiers drive to yourself and the council several times since before xmas and they are still out. In future I will not be wasting anymore of my time reporting faulty lights when nobody else seems to take any notice.

    Hi Bob,

Be fair – you’ve reported a lot more than two and all have been fixed at least once.

Those two – at the far end of Shiers Drive – have broken again which may indicate some bigger problem that’s taking longer to repair.

It isn’t a waste of time to report faulty streetlights. Most of the lights you’ve reported have been fixed, and the Council fixes lights on average in about 3 days.

  3. Bob says:

Yes the first lot were fixed several months after they were reported several times way back in 2009, these last two lamps were first reported last December so why such a delay????????

  4. Iain Roberts says:

I don’t know why there were particular problems with the lights on Shiers Drive, but I’ve been told that those two lamps at the end have been repaired today, so perhaps you can check and see if they’re working.

  5. Bob says:

Yes, they seem to be working now , looks like someone has finally put the plug in.

  6. Bob says:

Those Two lights on Shiers Drive are now out again plus an additional one in the same area, don’t you think they should be fixed properly? as they have been in and out for over two years now.

  7. Bob says:

I have today also reported the faulty lights on the councils web site, for what good it will do, who knows???Lets wait and see again!!!!!!!!!!!!

  8. Iain Roberts says:

As I suggested before, it sounds like there’s a more serious problem with those lights which may take longer to fix.

  9. Bob says:

Yes but not over two years.

  10. Bob says:

Hi Iain again, the lights on Shiers Drive were fixed last week, but they are out again tonight again.

  11. Iain Roberts says:

They’re looking into it. Sounds like it might be one of those situations where replacing one faulty component puts extra strain on another and causes something else to break.

  12. Iain Roberts says:

The street lighting people believe they’ve tracked down the issue to a faulty fuse, which has been replaced so hopefully the lights will now be working.
