Community toilet signs go up in Cheadle

by Lib Dem team on 28 October, 2011

Cheadle’s three community toilets (at the Star Inn, Jackson’s Supper Bar and Cheadle Library) have been operating successfully for a while.  They replace the old toilet block in Massie Street car park which was frequently vandalised, often closed or cold and uninviting.

Whilst not perfect, the community toilets are a step forwards, but we’ve been concerned that people don’t always know where they are.

That’s why we’ve had “Community Toilet” signs put up in the village – so whether you’re a regular or an occasional visitor you can easily spot where the toilets are.

Remember – community toilets are free for public use and the Council pays the owners to allow the public to use them.

Do we not need at least one in Gatley

  2. Iain Roberts says:

Hi Bryan – yes, I agree. It’s a long time since we had a public toilet in Gatley and we should have one. We are working on it.

The Library one was out of order the last two times I tried to use it. Is it back in use?

  4. Iain Roberts says:

    Hi Estelle,

The problem with the library toilet is a drain issue under Ashfield Road so it’s a big problem to fix. It is being opened as much as possible, but it still closed on occasion until the main problem can be fixed.

When the Library is closed (Wednesdays) or the toilet there is out of order, getting to one of the community toilets is tricky with a pram & a toddler as the Star Inn has an awkward step (and it’s not ideal having to walk through to the back of the pub with a 3 year old) & the toilet in Jackson’s is up a flight of stairs. Are there any other toilets that could be part of the scheme that are accessible with a pram (especially on Wednesdays!) e.g. the Doctors’ Surgery or ‘Cafe One’ above Tesco?

  6. Iain Roberts says:

    Hi Sarah,

At the moment there isn’t another that’s agreed to be in the scheme, though I hope we can get one. Although the community toilets are better than the old toilet block, I agree completely that they’re not perfect.

I support the community toilet scheme but, at present, the three in Cheadle are not well distributed. Have we tried to get one at the Wilmslow Road end of the village? There are quite a few eating establishments and what about the church. They’re in the business of ‘relieving’ people and are always in need of cash for building maintenance.

  8. Iain Roberts says:

    Hi Les,

Yes, the Council has tried every suitable establishment at the other end of the village, though we may try again.

As the Starr inn has changed its name and decor..Does it still stand for the community toilet scheme..OK Thankyou
