Strike could see bins uncollected in Cheadle & Gatley

by Lib Dem team on 11 November, 2011

There is a public sector strike planned for 30th November. At the moment it’s not entirely clear how many people will be involved, but it could well lead to a large section of Stockport Council, along with the public sector across the rest of the country, being out of action for the day.

November 30th is a Wednesday, which means those of us in Cheadle & Gatley may not get our bins collected on that day (the green bin, plus either blue or black depending on where you live).

The current plan is to collect any missed bins, plus any bags of additional rubbish/recycling left out, at the next scheduled bin collection date – the following week for green bins and two weeks later for blue/black bins.

Local schools may also be closed. This will be up to each school individually to decide and organise so hopefully we’ll hear soon.

Its nice to know that the public sector feels able to strike, paid as it is, by everyone else!

The private sector doesn’t have that luxury

  2. Les Leckie says:

Whatever else it may be striking is not a luxury.

  3. Alan Gent says:

My wife will lose a days pay to preserve her pension rights, so definitely not a luxury!

Have I understood this correctly Iain – would black bin rubbish be left uncollected for 4 weeks then? We are due a black bin collection on 30th November. That seems a very long time especially for people like me with nappies in the bin.

  5. Iain Roberts says:

Yes – if the strike goes ahead then that is the situation. It is a long time, though the Council will ensure additional rubbish left out in bin bags will be collected and you can take rubbish to the tips at Adswood or Longley Lane.
