Police update for Cheadle and Gatley

Sergeant Dave Lithgow and his colleagues came to Cheadle Area Committee to update us on policing issues.

  • There have been a spate of wing mirror thefts from Mercedes cars (so far, mostly in Bramhall and Cheadle Hulme).
  • The Cheadle & Gatley Business Watch is starting to work well – it aims to tackle the spate of shoplifting in the villages.
  • Anti-social behaviour is down 34% in Cheadle (year on year) and 12% in Gatley.
  • Burglary is down 2.3% – this reverses a spike in August and September.
  • Serious violent crime in Gatley has fallen 100%!  This reflects the improvement of behaviour in pubs.

Police are warning people not to leave cars running on the cold mornings – car thieves are around early in the morning too, and an unattended car can present an easy target.
