Lib Dem’s Community Payback scheme continues to pay off

by Lib Dem team on 15 February, 2012

The Lib Dem scheme to have people on Community Payback regularly visiting key locations around Cheadle and Gatley continues to work well.

We worked with the Council, the Probation Service and local residents to identify places where people on Community Payback could visit not just once but on a regular basis a few times a year, to clear rubbish and vegetation.

Among the locations cleared recently are:

  • The footpath section of Ashfield Road, past the library
  • Work done on the fields at the end of Ashfield Road, by Whitegates Road
  • The underpass at Kingsway, linking Broadway to Foxland Road.

More areas around Cheadle and Gatley will continue to be cleared and tidied as part of this ongoing programme.

This is really good news. I’ll declare an interest that I used to be employed as an administrator by the Probation Service until I retired. IIRC, Community Payback was always the most successful sentence of the court, in terms of criminals not reoffending. And it brings tangible benefits to the local community.

(By the way, Iain, the Captcha thing is getting really hard to read)
