Flashing speed signs now operational on Schools Hill

by Lib Dem team on 21 February, 2012

As of this morning, the speed signs are up and working on Schools Hill – they flash when a vehicle approaches too fast, but not when it’s within the speed limit.

Keith and Iain went to take a look, and both signs seem to be working correctly.

We’re very glad the signs have gone in, and now look forward to the rumble-strip style ripple paint, the bus stop move 50 metres to The Downs and, if we win our campaign, the puffin crossing.

Hooray, for good news. Just wish the speed was 20m.p.h. Well done to all of you.

Great that these have now been installed BUT I have to question their effectiveness so far.I walk the stretch of Schools Hill between Turnfield Road and the Cheadle Royal roundabout on a daily basis in both directions and have been observing the traffic approaching the newly installed
signs with great interest. The sign is activating as the vast majority of vehicles approach which I assume indicates that these drivers are continuing to exceed the 30mph limit.Few drivers are travelling slow enough so as to not be flashed a warning.Hopefully the situation will improve as drivers become more aware of the signage and the installation of the rumble strips will continue to slow traffic down.

I agree 30 is still too high for this road, specially with the crossing, school entry and exit, and when vehicles are going down hill.

hi- all the improvements are very welcomed- esp the possibility of the puffin crossing which is essential since cars still go through the current crossing whilst people are waiting to cross. the problem is that pedestrians start to cross when they see one lane of traffic is coming to a halt but the other carriage fails to notice this.

20 mph zone would be very welcomed, but the crossing forcing cars to stop would be the best answer.

whilst we are waiting for the crossing, i think some sign on the current crossing warning people that cars tend not to stop would help stop any other incidents…. can this be done ???

    all the best, paul

I agree 30MPH is still too high…..also I do believe we need one more pelican crossing between Daylesford Crescent & Daylesford Road, every time I take my kids to the park, (some) Nutters are driving too fast to let us cross the road & (excuse the pun) you can kill 2 birds with one stone here, the school will get use out of it (why no get them to pay towards it?)& the public can use it too, oh & while we are at it, can you PLEASE try & sort out Lady Barn school ? the Traffic is mad in the mornings & in the afternoons
