Research commissioned by the BBC says that Stockport is top for new business start-ups across not only the whole of the North West, but the whole country!

Over the last two years, 2,335 new firms have been established across the Borough – a 10.8% increase.

Lib Dem-led Stockport Council has put a lot of focus on helping new and existing businesses in recent years and this is a sure sign that it’s paying off.

This good news comes on top of the thorough debunking of the claim that Stockport had the most empty shops of any large centre. Stockport Council published data showing the numbers of empty units on a street-by-street basis – transparently so anyone can check. There are less than 23% empty units in Stockport town centre – a long way short of the 30% figure and far better than many other centres.
