Schools Hill Puffin Crossing Victory!

by Lib Dem team on 31 March, 2012

Thank you to everyone who supported the campaign to get a puffin crossing to replace the existing zebra crossing on Schools Hill. After two bad accidents last year, Keith has been working with local residents to secure it.

As part of Sainsbury’s expansion of their store at Cheadle Royal, they have to pay money for local road improvements. The Schools Hill puffin crossing was not on the original list, so we have been working with the Council to persuade Sainsbury’s to add it – a task that was greatly helped by the many people who signed Keith’s petition.

We are pleased to say that Sainsbury’s have now verbally agreed that the puffin crossing can go ahead, and we are just waiting for written confirmation.

We would like to thank Sainsbury’s and Stockport Council for their help.

    That’s execllent news.
However, there will still be cars speeding down Schools Hill despite the added traffic calming meaisres.
So warning sgns about the crossing may be necessary…so that vehicles can stop in time!

Fantastic……Lets hope the written confirmation arrives at least this month. I have had 2 near misses on the crossing this past week. Cars will stop one side but the other side can ignore you’re half way across, so you have to stop for them. I’m sure the Puffin Crossing will eliminate this. I still think a speed camera or average speed camera between the 30mph flashing lights, would make a fortune for the Police, Council, or whoever it is that benefits from these type of cameras. Unfortunately very few cars are obeying the speed limit.

Hi Ian, The flashing speed indicators are just not working to slow most of the speeding cars down, they are just being ignored most of the time, as I have said before, the only sure way is to inforce speed control by means of a camera or at least periods of spot checks.

Not really much of a campaign given that you are the exec member for Transport & Highways?

  5. Iain Roberts says:

As we explained above, Oliver, the money is from Sainsbury’s, not the Council.
