Network Rail clear rubbish after Lib Dem request

by Lib Dem team on 19 April, 2012

Thanks to Network Rail – following a request from the Lib Dems (and concerns raised by residents), they have been along the railway alongside Belmont Road, Gatley.

Network Rail have been down there, removed the litter they were able to safely, and even sent us some photos of the work that’s been done.

Good for Belmont Road. But, what about Beech Avenue, Cambridge Road, Springfield Road… ?!

  2. Iain Roberts says:

The issue of rubbish on the line was raised by residents on Belmont Road. We’ve not had reports of rubbish alongside the other roads (in most cases householders will be able to see better than us) but if there are issues, please let us know.

We do get reasonably regular clean-ups around the station area itself, by Cambridge Road.

Particularly along the embankment along Oakwood Avenue where even an old elecrical heater has been dumped and as for the rats that’s another matter that could do with some action!

I have been in contact with Network Rail since January regarding litter on the embankment alongside Cambridge Road. This has still not been cleared. They state it can only be done withing Health and Safety Rules. Strange, as when I have contacted them before it used to be cleared with no problems.
