M60/Kingsway works update

Despite dodgy weather, the work to expand the slip road from the M60 onto Kingsway continues apace. At various times there will be closures of the sliproads on and off the M60 overnight, plus lane closures during the day.

To see the latest information on restrictions and closures, see the Highways Agency impact on your journey page.

The work will see an additional running lane on the M60 from junctions 4 to 2 (anti-clockwise) and expansion of the slip road from J3 to the A34 to three lanes. More information on the works here.

I’ve just realised that the foot/cycle way on the east is being completely changed, but cannot yet find any details. They seem to have absorbed the old one to produce a third lane on A34 approaching the sliproad sot ther will be a new one somewhere.

This is a repeat request but I would be grateful for a confirmation of some sort:

Please will the contractors make sure that either a box junction or a ‘KEEP CLEAR’ box is clearly marked at the exit from South Park Road Estate onto the slip road. It is already a nightmare getting off the estate at most times across 2 lanes of traffic but with 3 lanes of traffic, stopped by ‘flip-flop’ lights, I envisage having to pack sandwiches….

There may be a similar problem for those of us on the South Park who get away from the estate by doing a u-turn at Barnes Hospital. I can see that, with the new lights, traffic may back up there, not allowing folk to easily make the turn.

(PS: the Captcha is becoming almost impossible toread)

As councillors, one of the points we made to the Highways Agency and AOne+ when they came to Area Committee was the need for a yellow box to ensure traffic from the South Park Road estate could exit onto the slip road.

They certainly took that on board and made positive noises at the time, but I don’t know for sure that it’s in their plan. We’ll make enquiries.
