Streetlights and footpaths

by Lib Dem team on 13 September, 2012

The Lib Dem team have reported five faulty streetlights in central Gatley for repair – two opposite the Horse & Farrier, one outside the Tatton, one under the railway bridge and one at by the triangle on Old Hall Road.

We’ve also asked the Council to cut back vegetation on the passageways from South Park Road to the Station car park.

If you spot any problems, you can report them directly to the Council online – just click on “report it” from the Stockport Council website. Let us know if anything isn’t getting done and we can chase it up.

Iain, several weeks ago I reported a blocked grid in the pavement in front of our drive. It feeds one of the main grids but when it rains now, it just floods our garden. Its been so long since it was done – and I did it last time – there is grass growing around it. If you can help……

I wish you luck! I have been reporting blocked drains in Hall Street, Cheadle for about a year now. They are still blocked and flood the pavement.

Alan – I’ll look into it.

Barbara – the crews came to clear the drains on Hall Street a couple of weeks ago, but unfortunately the parked cars were blocking access. We’re looking at what we can do to persuade people to park elsewhere for the short period the crews need access to the gulleys.

    Dear Iain

I noticed that the council/Highways section are now using new tactic, by sending two-men and a wagon trying to repair the damage/ faulty highway areas.
Although at first glance I do agree with the idea, and I was one whom initiate it, but I found, in reality been used incorrectly and it’s really is a waste of tax payer money and waste of the two men/gang time, the reason for this is that I noticed the 2 men-gang fix most of areas which is nothing wrong at all with it i.e; changing concrete Krebs which is no fault at all, digging an area which is perfect then filling them with asphalt/bitmac materials, (Just to find jobs for them and make money for their section/ the council/ in house highway contract) in the meantime they leaving the majority of dangerous and damaged areas and potholes unattended to, which is really dangerous and urgently need doing badly. This is clearly not the way to work.

I believe the reason for these huge mistake is because, highway’s initially failed to send a highway inspector/ technician( which act as a Client) to inspect the default area and mark it with white colour first then he /she issues an order to the relevant in-house contractor (the 2 men gang) to fix the damaged area.
Hence they leave the decision in the hands of unqualified laborer to do the jobs ( he will then act as both the client and contractor) and his interest of making more jobs for his own benefit/ section benefit is very clear (hence -there is clearly conflict of interest).
This immoral practice is usually happened in the end of each financial year budget so to spend the remaining last year money quickly ( it’s very bad approach and bad planning but sadly the council always end up using it. ( very bad planning)
Hence, quick action should be taken to stop it.
    Cheers

On Newboult Rd, SKD put signs up asking people not to park on the road or at least park away from the drains; not sure how successful it was?

  6. Iain Roberts says:

They did put up signs, but I’m told there were still too many cars parked on the day (as with Hall Street, which had the signs too).
