Stockport Times gets bin story wrong

If you read the front page story of the Stockport Times, you might get the impression that the Council is employing teams of people to scour the streets of the borough looking for stolen bins.

It’s a nice story, the only problem is that it’s not true!

We are concerned about stolen bins, but the bin men who come round and collect your bins anyway are going to be checking as part of their normal rounds, at no extra cost to the taxpayer. They know how many bins each household should have, so if someone has more than they should have (which may mean someone else has mysteriously lost a bin), they’ll make a note and action can be taken.

I hope the Times will publish a front page apology.
