Gatley braves the winter rain to turn on the lights

by Lib Dem team on 7 December, 2012

Thank you to everyone who came out in what was frankly atrocious weather for santa, christmas lights and carol singing.

Special thanks are due to the Rotarians, Gatley Traders (esp Sue and David Fernandez for organising) and everyone on the stalls: I know you were standing there pretty much alone until about 6.45 when everyone else started turning up!

A very difficult one given the weather, but I hope that everyone who made it enjoyed themselves. I can say the mince pies and cake was delicious.

A big thank you to all involved – much appreciated , especially given the weather conditions

There’s no festive joy in the area surrounding the proposed A555 through Cheshire’s greenbelt. This is the road that these liberal democrats are supporting. Despite the fact that traffic around Stockport peaked in 2001, they are continuing to try and build this dual carriageway through the narrowest stretch of green belt anywhere around Greater Manchester. Just think what that could do if invested in low carbon energy solutions as opposed to adding to existing pollution.Shame on them.

I’m glad that the relief road will create up to 5,000 new jobs and reduce traffic – and pollution – in our village centres including Cheadle, Gatley, Heald Green and Bramhall.

The road has, of course, been on the maps since the 1930s and the green belt was always created on the presumption that the road would be constructed.

Sad to note that opponents of the scheme feel adding comments to completely unrelated articles is the right approach to winning their case, though.
