Last Chance To Register For The Greater Manchester Fair Energy Scheme Auction

by Lib Dem team on 25 January, 2013

With less than a week to go until the first auction, residents across Greater Manchester are being urged to save hundreds of pounds from their fuel bills as part of an energy switching scheme.

Residents are being encouraged to use ‘people power’ and join a ground breaking collective energy switching scheme that could mean massive reductions to the cost of heating their homes by visiting www.gmfairenergy.com or calling 0800 009 3363 before it closes on Monday 28th January.

A similar scheme run by Oldham Council in the autumn attracted thousands of residents, with many households saving hundreds from their annual bills.

That project was so successful it is now being repeated, with people from across Greater Manchester invited to register their interest in combining their purchasing power.

Now, residents who saved money after applying for the Oldham scheme are urging others to sign up.

One Oldham resident, who slashed more than £470 off his fuel bills, said: “The more people that sign up for this the better, because this means that these big energy companies aren’t getting their own way.”

The Greater Manchester scheme was launched on 2nd January but more than 22,000 people have already signed up.

After the scheme closes, the group will enter a ‘reverse auction’ and get a cheaper deal together on gas and electricity from energy companies.

Councillor Stuart Bodsworth, Executive Member for Sustainable Futures at Stockport Council, said: “The January energy switch auction is getting closer, residents need to register by 28th January 2013 in order to take part. There is nothing to lose by registering, as you don’t have to take the deal offered, however you could stand to save a significant amount of money which, at a time of rising fuel costs, is an opportunity that few can afford to miss.”
