A welcome to Cheadle for Inspector Peter Smith

by Lib Dem team on 8 February, 2013

Inspector Peter SmithWe met the new Stockport West Police Inspector Peter Smith at the Cheadle Police Post this morning.  Peter Smith takes over from Steve Gilbertson, who moves into another role based at Cheadle Heath Police Station.  We’ve worked well with Steve over the last couple of years and wish him well in his new position.

Peter grew up in Cheadle and has most recently been based in Reddish.  We discussed the issues in Cheadle and Gatley.  Although we’re a relatively low crime area, and crime’s been falling here over the last few years, we still have our issues.

Those issues include burglaries, thefts from cars, shoplifting and robbery from shops and traffic and parking issues.

We’ll continue to work with the Police – it’s proven to be effective in recent years.  We realise the Police set their own priorities and have their own manpower issues so can’t do everything we’d like, but we’ve certainly seen impressive results.

Considering my dialog with you since summer last year I wondered if you did you discussed the appalling parking situation on Beech Avenue, Gatley near to William Scholes playing fields. Are you also aware that threats of violence were made by one of the attending footballers to a resident over parking within the last month?
On a slightly different note I notice there has been absolutely no change to the cleanliness on that street resulting from the use of those sports facilities. (I invite response)
