Can your business take on an apprentice?

Stockport Council, in partnership with the National Apprenticeship Service (NAS), is launching an ambitious ‘100:100’ Apprenticeship Scheme to encourage Stockport employers to take on 100 apprentices in 100 days.

This follows the success of the Council’s 50:50 Apprenticeship and Higher Apprenticeship Grant Schemes in the last three years. The schemes provide grants of between £1,000 and £2,000 to local employers who take on a 16-24 year-old Stockport resident.

The 100:100 scheme will be launched at leading supermarket chain Aldi in Romiley, Stockport, on Friday June 28th at 3pm.

Attending will be Sir Andrew Stunell OBE MP for Hazel Grove, Councillor Shan Alexander, Executive Member for Lifelong Learning and Achievement at Stockport Council, James Hutcheson from Aldi, Pete Lamb from the Dodd Group, Wayne Jones from MAN PrimeServ Diesel, Danny Pearson from Aquinas College, Karl Colyer from Stockport Homes, and Rachel Jones from Pure Innovations.

It has been confirmed that both Stockport Council and Aldi will be taking on apprentices within 100 days.

Councillor Shan Alexander said: “Following the great success of our 50:50 Apprenticeship Grant Schemes in recent years, Stockport Council is now launching a 100 Apprenticeships in 100 Days scheme with the NAS. This ground breaking initiative will help young people in the borough gain confidence and get their first experience of working for a local organisation which in turn will boost the local economy.”

James Hutcheson, Regional Managing Director and Head of Recruitment at Aldi, added: “We are delighted to lend our support to Stockport Council’s aim of appointing 100 apprentices in 100 days. Aldi is planning to hire 14 apprentices for its stores in and around Stockport to help achieve the overall target of 100 throughout the borough, and in order to provide a genuine career path into retail management for young people. Our apprentices have already proven themselves to be dedicated and hard-working members of Aldi’s retail teams, contributing to the success of the business over the last two years.”
