Canvassing in Cheadle with the former Belgian Prime Minister

Residents of Turnfield Road and Cringle Drive in Cheadle might have been a little confused to see the Lib Dem team out knocking on doors last Friday afternoon with a camera crew following us around.
The cameras weren’t for the local team – we’re really not that interesting!
They were from Belgian TV, following former Belgian Prime Minister Guy Verhofstadt who joined us, along with local MP Mark Hunter and local Euro MP Chris Davies. Guy was Prime Minister of Belgium for more than eight years, from 1999 to 2008.
He’s currently standing to be the next President of the European Commission, and we wanted to give him the chance to meet some local voters and hear what they had to say.
Guy was very friendly and down to earth – we wish him every success in his election.
This week we were out knocking on doors in Torkington Road – a friendly reception, but no former Prime Ministers.

To think – Verhofstadt – he used to be such a nice ‘Guy’ !
Methinks he could be a good choice for the ‘Presidential’ role – his love of all things E U could help the skeptics cause no end !
