Tackling traffic issues on Frances Street and Bulkeley Road, Cheadle

by Lib Dem team on 21 July, 2014

Mark Hunter MP and the local Lib Dem team have long been concerned about speeding on Frances Street – an issue raised whenever we call to see residents.

We recently asked residents along the road about erecting a “Reduce Speed Now” sign on a pole where the road narrows.

We’ve had 9 replies (nearly a quarter of households), all in favour of the proposal. We’ll now ask Council officers to progress the scheme.

In nearby Bulkeley Road residents complained of problems seeing clearly to pull safely out the road, so we’ve had the stop line moved forward out into Stockport Road (with the lines guiding drivers on the main road safely past) to improve visibility.

Iain, the major problem now with the Bulkeley Rd. improvements , is that some idiots now treat the striped areas as a parking zone!
On that note, there is still an issue about exiting Broadway onto Wilmslow Rd. any chance of a similar treatment?

I’ll keep an eye on the parking, Alan – not spotted that myself and the double yellow lines are still very much in force so clearly illegal to park there.

I think we’ve looked at the Broadway junction before – from memory it’s trickier because the road’s so much narrower there, but worth looking into again.

The Broadway/Wilmslow Road junction continues to be very dangerous, both for cars and bikes pulling out and for pedestrians crossing the road.
Many cars speed up as they come down the hill from Cheadle Hulme and some appear prepared to knock over pedestrians who may be unable to sprint across the road.
This also affects people crossing Broadway at the end as drivers speed around the corner turning left off Wilmslow Road.
i am surprised that nothing has been done to ameliorate this as there are numbers of young people crossing here on their way to school.

Iain – I agree that people are parking on the hatched area at the end of Bulkeley Road. It’s especially bad when there are church services on Sunday morning – there were three cars parked there as I left this morning. I think someone should explain the restrictions to the congregation.

Single yellow lines not double from my house to Bulkley road would have Ben polite to have been consulted regarding these lines especially as they were done outside my bedroom in the middle mm of the night.
