Cheadle Area Committee report back

Report back from Cheadle Area Committee, 5th August 2014

The Area Committee covers three wards: Heald Green, Cheadle and Gatley and Cheadle Hulme North. This year we’re meeting in the Ladybridge Park Residents Club, Edenbridge Road, Cheadle Hulme.

  • We had a report from the Area Conditions Officer, David Wilson.  Over the next few weeks inspectors will be out looking for potholes and other problems on the Lakes estate and Springfield/Delamere/Torkington area.
  • Sergeant Greg Morgan from the West Area neighbourhood Police and representatives from the Council’s crime prevention unit reported.  Despite a small rise in crime last year, the overall figures remain at historically low levels. A number of Partnership Operations target specific crime issues. A good example is Operation Adventor, where the police monitor crime figures daily for hot spots and provide extra patrols in those areas. There’s also a new process called SORT-IT – a restorative justice panel for neighbour disputes. With Inspector Peter Smith retiring this week, he will be replaced by Inspector Neil Cook.
  • Keith Holloway raised the issue of the no right turn from Massie Street onto Cheadle High Street. The Police said that they are stopping people when they see them.

Stockport Crime

  • Stockport Homes reported on the work they do , including some specific investments like a new kitchen and paving at Oak Tree Court, Cheadle and improvements on Holly Avenue. They now have a dedicated person to check paths and roads on Stockport Homes property for trip hazards and arrange repairs. Stockport Homes also now has a dedicated Anti-social behaviour team to see ASB issues through from start to finish.
  • Shopmobility Stockport reported on their work – both making mobility scooters available for hire in the Town Centre and offering training to anyone who has their own mobility scooter to get their SUPA (Scooter User Proficiency Award) – which I have, by the way!
  • Double yellow lines at the junction of Councillor Lane and Councillor Lane Service Road were approved, to replace the current single yellows restricted to school times.
  • Double yellow lines at the junction of Cranston Grove and Park Road were approved.
  • Installation of an A frame and pedestrian guard rail at the end of Lavington Avenue, where it meets the path from Minster Drive, was approved, to stop motorcycles using it as a cut through.
  • The application to extend the licence for the Abney Park Tearooms at the pavilion building, Abney Hall Park for a further 12 months was recommended for approval, but with reservations that there has been friction with park users which needs to be resolved.
  • The application for an Abney Park Community Fun Day and Dog Show on 21st September (“Bark in the Park”) was approved, with a request that the activities be kept away from Queens Gardens where some residents were disturbed by the noise last year.

Is there a Police presence on the High Street & have any tickets been issued over (say) the past 12 months? Anyone using Massie Street area is all too well aware of the frequency of offending. The presence of the PCSO was a deterrent however I understand he has been transferred to another patch. More information please…Janet

    Hi Janet,

Yes there’s a police presence on the High Street. I don’t know about Police fines, but the Council have certainly issued numerous parking tickets in the village over the last year.

The current PCSO is moving to another area, so we wait to see who her replacement will be.

Perhaps I didn’t make it clear. I’m interested in illegal right turners from Massie Street on to High Street. We’ve discussed this previously, to the point of trying for a camera which is under the Police control. It appears not to be on any agenda anywhere. Who will supply figures?
    Thank you
