Both the George & Dragon pub and Cheadle Post Office have re-opened in Cheadle this week.
The George and Dragon looks fantastic, refurbished inside and out. At the other end of the village the Post Office has re-opened for the counter service, with the new shop (inc. a WH Smith) opening in a week or so.

re:The George and Dragon – such a shame the refurbishment did not extend to the exterior – still covered in that tacky render, pretentious shelter over the front door and that overpowering sign above.
@Robert Taggart – Nonsense – George and Dragon looks superb both inside and out.Excellent transformation from a boarded up building, and a most welcome addition to the village.
Agree, Graham.
Quite agree with Graham and Les. Thank goodness something has been done at long last. Tacky porch? What rubbish Robert writes. The old archway looks so attractive from the outside. Can’t wait to explore inside
I agree. The George & Dragon looks great and contributing to the improvement of Cheadle village.
Robert Taggart, why do you have to resort to such personally offensive comments? At the very least it is very nice to see the building refurbished.
PR – read comments 2,3,4 !
Fantastic job being done for our village so let’s celebrate the fact and appreciate what is being done to keep it alive.
Hopefully the fountain will be moved soon to complete the village green re-vamp too.
On the minus side – went for a walk past the old Barnes Hospital building today – what a mess. This is an outrage (and on a listed building),to allow such a great building to fall apart. Or am I missing something here – are the owners just awaiting the collapse of it ????
@Robert Taggart .. Reading the other posts,I think that you are pretty much on your own here. It’s very clear that you out of step with both “The people of this neighbourhood” and what is considered to be tasteful.
Robert Taggart: I’ve never removed comments just because I disagree with them, or even because they attack me, but I will continue to remove your comments where you insult people posting here.
If you are really unable to make your point without stooping to personal abuse, maybe you should stop commenting.
I think the George and Dragon looks wonderful. With the green it makes a huge difference to the east side of the village. Cheadle is definitely on the up.
Great, now we just need the Tatton Cinema problem to be resolved.
I wish the owner of the Tatton site was as keen to bring it back into use as the owner of the George & Dragon has been!
George and Dragon is a very important piece in the village regeneration and all credit to Amber in getting it up and running in double quick time. Considering LWC sat on the building for how many years and did nothing?
Off now to check the all important beer quality…
As Chair of Cheadle Civic Society I am also pleased to see the George up and running again-when our work on the Green is complete this entrance to Cheadle will be impressive.I hope that all residents respect just what has been done here, especially those who try to park on the grass and the Memorial paving, and those that do not seem to see where litter bins are situated. The Ockleston Memorial will not be moved this year for many reasons, mainly that Winter is not a good time for such a job.We have to protect the Memorial and do not know what is holding it together inside.A specialist will take it apart in sections, clean, repair and re-build.We are looking at Spring 2015.I would like to mention also that the new paving has made such a difference to Cheadle-the white shows off the Society flower displays-so why do some individuals insist on parking on it?, sometimes with all four wheels on-even while the men were laying the flags just feet away.I have spoken everyone I have seen parking in this way and most see reason. We all need to take responsibility for Cheadle-do not let the minority spoil it.
Pleased to have the opportunity to express my thanks and appreciation to the Civic Society for the floral displays and all other benefits they provide for the village. We are indeed fortunate to enjoy their efforts . Thanks so much to you all..
