I hope you have had the signs Cickadees had put out in the pavement, they obstructed viewing traffic on Wilmslow Road. I counted the vehicles coming along the High Street towards Gatley and turning into Wilmslow Road, there are 12 or 13 vehicles that get through on one set of lights, going the other way turning into the High Street only 5 cars get through and if there is a bus that’s even less. I come home from work and get to the bottom of schools Hill coming from Cheadle Hulme at 4.10pm and I am stuck in slow moving traffic for at least 5 minutes before I can turn into Charlotte Street. It is the same in the morning fortunately I am going to Cheadle Hulme, but the queue of traffic ging towards Cheadle often backs up to the roundabout at Gillbent Road. Alot of information but nevertheless very true. Audrey

When are the footpaths in the High St. going to be completed? 12 week project commenced in June?!! When is Cheadle Green going to be completed (memorial to be moved)? When is the Manchester Rd cycle lane going to be completed? Why has the bus stop near the Alexander hospital 30 yards from the new bus shelter? Why has a new pedestrian crossing been installed in the high street when no improvements have been made to the one 25 yards away opposite the George and Dragon? Why has there been no ‘action’ over the Kingsway crossing? Call these improvements? Do a poll, as the community and you’ll get your answer!!!

OK, Camilla, I’m pretty sure all the questions you ask have been answered here before but very happy to help out.

When are the footpaths in the High St. going to be completed? 12 week project commenced in June?!!

No, it was never a 12 week project. The aim is to do the final section in 2015 but it was always the plan to do the work in three phases, with phase two now completed.

When is Cheadle Green going to be completed (memorial to be moved)?

I don’t know, and that’s not a council project. It’s been run and funded by the Cheadle Civic Society and moving the memorial is both expensive and complex, so they understandably want to make sure it’s done right.

When is the Manchester Rd cycle lane going to be completed?

Unfortunately the Highways Agency have delayed completion of the section over the motorway – we’d have liked it to be done some time ago.

Why has the bus stop near the Alexander hospital 30 yards from the new bus shelter?

    I don’t know.

Why has a new pedestrian crossing been installed in the high street when no improvements have been made to the one 25 yards away opposite the George and Dragon?

Because the new crossing is at the place where there’s been a lot of accidents so we want to make it safer for pedestrians to cross there. Improvements to the G&D crossing are scheduled for Phase 3 of the works.

Why has there been no ‘action’ over the Kingsway crossing?

There’s been lots of action over the Kingsway crossing. If you mean why haven’t the queues vanished, it’s because it’s a difficult problem to solve: too much traffic and too little roadspace. There’s currently a big project with the Highways Agency, TfGM and the Council to look at possible ways to improve it and we’ve been updating residents on progress. The latest Lib Dem improvement to the junction – moving the white lines where people turn right – has allowed more cars to turn without making other queues longer: a small improvement but good all the same.

Well one idea would be to define Cheadle. People talk about Cheadle but mean different things. geographically Chealde can be the conservation area, the village centre, the area including Cheadle Hulme and Gatley but it can also be the parish. It would help if all groups when talking about Cheadle mean the same thing.
