Have your say on the Kingsway Junction

by Lib Dem team on 26 January, 2015

Local MP Mark Hunter and Lib Dem Council candidate Graham Greenhalgh have organised a public meeting for you to have your say on the Kingsway junction to the agencies that control it, and everyone is invited.

The Kingsway junction’s one of the busiest in Greater Manchester and the Lib Dem team have worked to improve it, most recently getting the white lines moved to allow more cars to turn right from Cheadle and Gatley. But more needs to be done. The junction is already over capacity and with more houses being build and the economy growing stronger, it’s going to get even worse if nothing is done.

After pressure from Mark and the Lib Dems, all the agencies responsible for the junction have got together to work on a plan to improve it. Now Mark has asked TfGM, the Highways Agency and Stockport Council to come together, update residents and listen to what you have to say.

Mark Hunter said “Residents know there’s no quick fix, and that makes developing a proper long-term solution even more important. I want the people who use the junction – and sit in the queues – every day to have a say in that.”

Graham Greenhalgh added “We need a solution that’s going to keep everyone moving for decades – we need to get this right.”

The meeting will take place at 7pm on Friday 20th February at Cheadle (Kingsway) Sports Club, 225 Kingsway, Cheadle, SK8 1LA, hosted by Mark Hunter MP and Cllr Iain Roberts. Mark has also invited representatives from the Highways Agency, TfGM and Stockport Council.

It is extremely disappointing that the meeting is for “people who use the junction” with no mention of local residents. We have to put up with bad air and noise pollution from the A34 traffic, rat-runners through our residential roads – many of whom ignore the 20 mph speed limits and vast increase in our local journey times without going near the junction!

The vast majority of local residents use the junction, whether in cars, on bike, in a bus or as pedestrians but even if someone happens to live nearby and never crosses there at all they are still welcome.
