Quite disgraceful that no mention of the danger and stupidity of public drunkenness is mentioned. Perhaps they should have shown some of the less savoury pictures of drunken girls which have appeared in newspapers. This advert makes it look glamorous.

The campaign is about rape, not drunkenness, and rightly sends the message that sex without consent is rape no matter how much they’ve had to drink. There are other campaigns about drinking (and young people today both drink and binge drink a great deal less then they did 10, 20 or 30 years ago).

      • Alice F says:

I don’t agree. The advert is clearly about drinking as well as rape – it is establishing a connection as well as suggesting that the women have no responsibility for their own safety. If you stand in the middle of a busy road during rush hour you have a good chance of being injured. This is the message that is required. Treat all women like innocent victims and you are inviting trouble.

        • John Hartley says:

I find it hard to understand the concept that a woman who has been raped is other than an “innocent victim”. Surely we have moved on from “she was asking for it” – by dressing that way, by being drunk, etc.

That said, as someone who has been on the wagon for a number of years, I’m all for campaign to limit excessive alcohol consumption. It is the cause of many violent crimes, including domestic violence , as well as the more obvious street fights.
