Every gulley should be jetted at least once a year to make sure it’s free-flowing and rainwater can run away. We all know that, while most work fine, some are blocked – and look like they’ve been blocked for a long time!
If you spot a blocked gulley, you can report it here. If it’s not sorted, let the Lib Dem team know and we’ll chase it up for you.
It isn’t always the council’s fault though – here are some reasons why we can still get water pooling:
Remember when the centre of Gatley used to flood and be under several inches of water? I can recall walking the kids to Gatley Primary through it. Since the Environment Agency made the improvements to stop Gatley Brook damming up on Scholes Fields that hasn’t happened once. That was a big project, but it did the job.

The drains on Cambridge Road at the side of the railway station are never cleaned as cars are always parked. Do not know if an arrangement can be made to clean these as the road is flooding in heavy rain.
It is possible – the usual approach (which was done with Old Hall Road a few months back) is to put up signs asking people not to park there on the day. We’ll take a look.
Glad to see for the first time in years our road grids got a good cleaning last week.
I might be wrong (it’s happened before…) but we haven’t seen our drains cleaned or looked at for quite some time here on Borrowdale Avenue. And every time we have a sunny/dry spell, we can smell the drains throughout the house.
Hi Chris – if you’ve got specific gulleys that are blocked and need jetting to clear them please let us know and we’ll chase it up.
