Manchester Muslim Leaders condemn violence in France, Kuwait and Tunisia

by Lib Dem team on 1 July, 2015

From the Manchester Council of Mosques, including Cheadle Muslim Association:

In the wake of the violence in France, Kuwait and Tunisia on 26 June 2015, Qadir Ahmad Chohan Chair of Manchester Council of Mosques says,”We are all resolved to defeat terrorism and terrorists, we condemn the callous killing of innocent people in France, Kuwait, Tunisia and America.

We send our condolences to the families and loved ones of the bereaved, and we will continue to do all that we can to continually promoting a peaceful and tolerant society.

The Muslim community vehemently rejects any suggestion that such murders can ever be justified by our Islamic faith. Such actions have no place in any religion and they should be treated as they are – vile attacks of criminal terrorism.

If IS are confirmed to be behind any or all these acts, we again condemn their acts of terrorism as we have done in the past and they need to know we are committed to preventing their seeds of hatred being planted in the UK or elsewhere.

IS are not representatives of the 2.7 million Muslims in Britain and 1.6 billion Muslims around the world. We should not give any credence what so ever that IS represents ‘Islam’ or that they are a ‘state’.

At this time we should respond by focusing our attention on supporting victims and their families and bringing the perpetrators to justice. We counsel the targeted use of existing powers and criminal offences to tackle those who encourage this form of callous violence and prosecute them in an open criminal justice system’’.

A special Friday sermon on 3 July 2015 at 1.30pm will send out clear messages that acts of violence which target innocent people have no place in any religion and civilized society and world.

sorry but this is the only visible sign i have seen about the atrocity from our Muslim friends. No out cry in the national press or on tv or any marches against it all last week.
And i am an avid viewer of political news and read a paper

  2. Sajeel says:

Why do we condemn in others what we condone in ourselves.
Asaad of Syria dropped barrel bombs on cities and killed 200000 civilians before ISIS or Is came along and nobody in the west said poop

  3. Halifax says:

I have to agree with David on this one.

If you want to see an outcry or marches try drawing a picture of their prophet, however murdering innocents in the name of their religion raises barley a murmur.

Sajeel – I have Syrian friends and they have a different perspective as to what is going on in Syria to the one we are told

  4. Iain Roberts says:

David – as I know from experience, you can put out statements and press releases but you can’t force people to print them.

Could it be that what you’ve described says more about the national press than about the muslim community?

    • David Maycock says:

no trouble is you are doing it now, they are the only group of immigrants where no one can express anything about them without fear of being of being called. I was brought up in Moss Side and from experience they are the only group of people who have asked or even demanded at times the changes we now see in our culture, like why do our schools, after to have Halal meat, as a postman in Heald Green some Muslim women will not answer the door if a male is not in why ? i have to take item back. But going back to what your saying we do not need the press, if they were on the street condeming it we would know with all the social media out there. And to Sajeel about Syria and Isis where are all the other Arab countries in the middle east why do they not get together, they can not even get together to stop what is happening in Gazza which is just a hell hole now.Where the Israeli’s are allowed by the west as well to dictate every thing that happens there, any that is my opinion which i am allowed to express as at the moment we still have free speech which i am afraid a lot of politicians have not got the courage of there convictions

  5. Halifax says:

David – I must admit I do not understand why non faith schools serve Halal meat. If their parents insist on indoctrinating their children, then they should either provide their own lunches or choose a faith school

There were Jewish children I went to school with, and as a far as I recall Kosher food was never on the menu – if they wanted kosher they had to. bring it in themselves

  6. barbara says:

I reread the letter and the fourth paragraph reads If IS are confirmed to be behind etc……..What does that mean???If……?????Who is responsible??????

    • Iain Roberts says:

They’re assuming IS are responsible, but sensible to note that it hasn’t been confirmed by security services. After all, we all know some terrorist organisations will claim responsibility for things they didn’t do.
