by Lib Dem team on 26 August, 2015

The Council is sending out a letter to let people know the details of works to improve the A34 around Stanley Green, Cheadle Hulme.

Notification of Works on the A34 from Storeys Way to Stanley Green Roundabout

We write to inform you that the appointed contractor for the A6 to Manchester Airport Relief Road (A6 MARR), Carillion Morgan Sindall (CMS) will be entering the next phase of works, which will involve night works along the A34, from Storeys Way to Stanley Green roundabout.

Starting on Tuesday 1st September for 4 nights, we begin installing temporary traffic management. This work will involve erecting signs and removing and installing new road markings. Along the A34 from Storeys Way to Stanley Green roundabout we will be implementing narrow lanes with a 30mph speed limit. During those 4 nights the A34 from Storeys Way to Stanley Green roundabout, along with eastbound and westbound exit slip roads, Stanley Green Road and the A555 eastbound and westbound exit slip roads will be closed between the hours of 8pm and 6am.

A diversion will be in place during the closures. Please see the below link to our semmms website for more detail on this – http://www.semmms.info/a6marr_construction/traffic_management/

Our working hours will be day time Monday to Friday 07:30 – 18:00, night time Monday to Friday 20.00 – 06:00 and Saturdays when required from 8am – 1pm.

More detailed work will then commence in this area from the 7th September 2015. We will be carrying out survey works, vegetation clearance, new boundary fencing erection and clearance of site. This work will be carried out during our day time working hours of 07.30 – 18:00.

From mid-September 2015, we will start night time works, stripping topsoil and commencing road works. We will also be holding presentations for both businesses and residents over the coming weeks to give an update about the works. We will provide further details of the meeting once the date has been confirmed.

CMS have liaised with Stockport Metropolitan Borough Council and Cheshire East Council to put all the appropriate consents in place.

We hope that you will not be affected by the works and we will seek to minimise noise and disruption.

I have been stuck in traffic now on the roundabout for the last 3 days I seen no one working on it once and it says working hours are am times

  2. Ahmed says:

I pass this stretch of road everyday. I have only noticed the working staff twice and both times they were just idle in their vehicles

  3. Ken Grant says:

NO ONE IS WORKING HERE! It is causing chaos, anger and loss of business to commuters.
Who is responsible for the inactivity?
How long are these ‘works’ scheduled for?
What can you do to alleviate the misery?

  4. Clive Burgess says:

is anything going on, because I have been stuck in these traffic jams for three months now and all I can see is a few tree`s cut down that would take me a week to do with a hand saw

  5. Phil End says:

I too suffer these ‘works’ every Mon – Fri and like those above I’m not simple, we can see if there’s anything been done from one week to the next and the fact is precious little is happening.

Regardless of whether people can be seen on site there’s no apparent progress being made.

  6. Ben Newman says:

Please can you post an update to what is happening –

My assumption is that no work has been completed on this in the last 3-6 months.

If this is incorrect please advise of the specifics

  7. Harry Martin says:

I am a local resident. The ‘Why haven’t I seen anyone working ?’ Is common. The answer’s straightforward. Most roadworks are undertaken overnight when traffic flows are lightest to minimise inconvenience. That said, what effect will the Carillion situation have on progress. Will Morgan Sindall finish the job on their own ?
