While the campaign to get an orbital tram/train route through Cheadle and Gatley continues, TfGM say that a couple of issues with paying to travel on the existing Metrolink routes have been sorted out.
First, there have been lots of complaints of ticket machines not taking credit/debit card payments. Apparently, this isn’t a fault of any one machine and it isn’t consistent as to which machines are affected. Rather, it’s an issue in the back-office where the German contractors process card payments and it’s led to up to 900 being declined on any one day. TfGM say this has now been fixed – let’s hope so!
Second, TfGM issued a Smartphone ticketing app for Android and iPhone to allow us to buy e-tickets and not have to bother with the ticket machines at all. It’s been running since October for a limited number of tickets, growing steadily and currently accounts for around 3% of ticket purchases. The big news today is that the app will be updated in the next couple of weeks to allow more journey types – including single point-to-point tickets (the sort occasional users like me tend to buy). If so, it will make the app a whole lot more useful and should be a real boost for the Metrolink network.
