Open community forum – Diamond Jubilee Park

by Lib Dem team on 21 July, 2011

For some time the Lib Dems have been working with local residents and police to tackle anti-social behaviour on Diamond Jubilee Park, Cheadle.

For anyone  who uses or lives near the park, there’s an open community forum on Diamond Jubilee Park which will take place on the 18th August 2011 at Cheadle Library 6.00pm to 7.30pm.

At the meeting we will be looking at how the park users feel the park can be improved and how Parks and Recreation can support the community to bring about these changes.

We are hoping that there will be representatives from the police and anti social behaviour team present at the meeting.

Can I just ask how the details of this meeting will be communicated to non twitter and non blog residents?

Will there be a letter to each resident on Frances street, Park road and the section of Stockport road that are directly next to the park?

  2. Iain Roberts says:

Letters have already gone to all residents on Frances Street and Stockport Road. I’m pretty sure they’ve also gone to Park Road, though I’ve not checked that personally as Park Road is in the next door ward (Cheadle Hulme North).

I live right opposite the park I can have nothing but praise for the girl/young lady who keeps the park in such a neat and tidy condition she works so hard on it. But this is still being spoilt by people letting their dogs foul the grass area,I see this every day although I must say it is much much better and most people clean up after their dogs mess. Also I see dogs off leads I know this is allowed but I dont think that it should be, people just walking through the park can feel very intimidated by a dog running up to them, I myself have no want to have a dog come up to sniff around me and no matter how much the owner may tell you how good they are its just not wanted, so how about dogs on leads between the hours of 9am – 4pm. I will try and make the meeting but Being a grandparent and it being school holidays Thursday is a child minding day.

I’m a mum of a young toddler, and use the park a lot as, like many families in the terraced houses nearby, we have no garden. It’s great to have the park so close – it’s well used (I particularly use the swings and grass areas near to the swings), and quite sociable too. I’ll try to come to the meeting, but in case I can’t I have two comments. Firstly, I agree with the gentleman above about dogs. They regularly come racing up to my baby as he’s learning to walk, which scares me. As a parent, you never know whether a dog is gentle so I am always on the look-out – not ideal! Ideally, there would either be a dogs-on-lead period of the day as suggested above, or a fenced off area where dogs are not allowed so that toddlers can explore safely. Secondly, I assume some work is underway in the swings area as equipment keeps being removed – when it is replaced perhaps we could have some more adventurous equipment for older children, as well as the toddler friendly stuff. Thanks a lot.
