Anger at Park Road resurfacing failure

by Lib Dem team on 21 December, 2012

We’re angry that poor work from contractors has made a mess of Park Road in Gatley, and we’re working to get it sorted out as quickly as possible.

Park Road had a treatment called a “surface dressing” – it’s the most cost-effective way to resurface roads that haven’t deteriorated too bady.   It should last for 4-5 years and it’s widely used (for example, Edgeley Road).

Unfortunately, something’s gone badly wrong with the quality of the work on Park Road.  After just a couple of months the surface is breaking up, grit from the holes is lying on the road and the whole thing’s a mess.

The contractor will be returning to sweep up loose grit, and will be coming back to do the job properly (we hope!) – though the work can’t be redone until next spring, probably around May, as it’s seasonal work.

I’ve also got a meeting with Council officers early in the New Year to look at why this has happened and how we can avoid it in future.

My car was damaged by the loose chippings on Park Road, along with many others. Is there a council hotline to claim back repair costs? If not, there should be, waiting until May to repair the road is madness.

This needs to be done now! the road is getting worse, the paintwork on my car that i bought on the 24th of December is getting worse and everyones patience is wearing thin. Surely its not cost effective to have to keep on resurfacing this road? can it be done properly and can i have an address to send my bill from the car body shop?
