At this week’s Cheadle Area Committee, councillors considered proposals for a funding boost for local play areas.

The money comes from developments – housing developers have to contribute money for local play provision.

Among the proposals are:

  • £19,000 for new junior play equipment and safer surfacing at Cheadle’s Diamond Jubilee Recreation Ground
  • £27,000 for continued improvement of toddler and young junior play areas at Bruntwood Park, including improved landscaping and safer surfacing in the toddler play area.
  • £25,000 for the Gatley Recreation Ground, which could either be used to replace ageing play equipment or to resurface the tennis/basketball court area.

It’s good news to hear that money is to be spent on Gatley rec. The priority should be equipment update for the smallest children. They have been neglected in recent spending on leisure facilities in the area.
