Thousands of pounds to boost local Primary School sport

by Lib Dem team on 15 April, 2013

The Lib Dems have welcomed an extra £770,280 being given to primary schools across Stockport to boost PE and Sport.

Cheadle Primary School will receive £9,120.  Gatley Primary will get £9,795, Lum Head £8,765 and North Cheshire Jewish £9,095.

Schools will have to spend the sport funding on improving their provision of PE and sport, but they will have the freedom to choose they do this.

Possible uses for the funding include:

  • hiring specialist PE teachers or qualified sports coaches to work alongside primary teachers when teaching PE
  • new or additional Change4Life sport clubs
  • paying for professional development opportunities in PE/sport
  • providing cover to release primary teachers for professional development in PE/sport
  • running sport competitions, or increasing participation in the school games
  • buying quality assured professional development modules or materials for PE/sport
  • providing places for pupils on after school sport clubs and holiday clubs.

This is a welcome boost from the Government and, once again, they’ve taken what I think is the right approach in trusting Head Teachers to spend it in the way that’s best for their school.
