Stockport Museum searching for WWI stories and objects

by Lib Dem team on 7 February, 2014

Your Museum Needs You

Stockport Story Museum is searching for stories and objects from World War One for a new exhibition.

The exhibition will tell the story of World War One through the eyes of people from Stockport, using diaries, letters, scrapbooks, newspaper articles and photographs.

Curators are keen to include stories of local people who served their country or stayed in the town to support the war effort; and are hosting a series of open days to invite people to come along and share any objects or family stories.

The first event takes place at the Hat Works Museum on Saturday 15th February, 11am-4pm; and further events will be held on Sunday 16th March and Saturday 12th April.

Broughton House Home for retired service men in Salford has an excellent museum of first and second world war artefact’s memorabilia medals photographs and historical records.

They may have some records etc of any Stockport Armed Forces who were mentioned in dispatches.
