Concern about fallen tree causing flooding

by Lib Dem team on 22 April, 2014

photo 4We’re chasing the Council to remove a tree that’s fallen across Gatley Brook by the footbridge from Gatley Hill to Scholes Field (near the running track).

We’re concerned that, if left, it could easily form a dam as debris washes downstream and then flood the area. It’s not too big, so hopefully can be sorted out fairly quickly.

I was of the opinion that such a problem is the work of the Environment people, but could be wrong. When trees fall over Gatley brook on the Carrs the council always say that, “It isn’t our problem”. However the same tree fallen over a public footpath is their problem!

    Hi Paula,

I’m not entirely sure, but the Council should either sort it out themselves or pass it onto the Environment Agency.

  3. Paula Isherwood says:

In the past it has been left to volunteers on the Carrs but I’m sure you will manage something. (That isn’t sarcasm – honestly!) However if you do get a result I’ll know who to contact in future!!!

  4. Frederick Kenny says:

“Lib Dems demand action” – the Lib Dems are the controlling party that runs Stockport MBC – no need to demand action you should take action by instructing the incredibly expensive council staff to get on with it.

Perhaps you could also get them to unblock the top water drains on Gatley Road and Old Hall Road at the same time.
The drains on Old Hall Road have been blocked for at least five years and previously reported to you. The ones on Gatley Road were reported to you about nine months ago and still no action. If it takes as long to remove the tree as it does to unblock the gulleys Noah will need to build another Ark

I would like to question the priorities here. How is this worthy of chasing the Council compared to the terrible state of our local roads?

Iain – just take a slow drive down St Anns, into Grasmere Road and down to Foxland Rd. It is like the roads i visited in Yugoslavia in the Balkan War. Not quite bomb craters but getting that way. This is (still) a nice area and we want it to stay that way. Help us Iain.

  7. Iain Roberts says:

Mr Gray – I agree that many of our roads, like roads right across the country, are in much poorer condition than we’d like.

That’s why I’ve been working for the last year on a £100 million investment to properly resurface roads and pavements right across Stockport. It’s the biggest investment in our roads and pavements in a generation and I don’t know of anywhere in the country that’s doing more.

The project was approved at Full Council in February and work will start later this year – not just patching but properly resurfaced roads.
