Getting graffiti cleared from underpasses

by Lib Dem team on 22 April, 2014

The Lib Dem team have been cracking down on graffiti – and people often mention to us how there’s a lot less around in Cheadle and Gatley than a few years ago. Reporting it and getting it cleaned off does work.

This week we’ve asked for two tricky areas to be painted over: the underpasses at Cheadle Royal and Barnes Hospital. They’re out of the way with few people passing by, so an easy option for anyone wanting to deface the walls, and it may not be practical to keep them cleaned in the way we do most more visible areas, but it does still need to be done as best we can.

    Hi Iain

Have the council decided to abandon the graffiti under the Foxland Road railway bridge? I reported it many weeks ago when it first appeared and again when you included a link to the graffiti website, and it’s still there.

    Hi Anne,

Definitely not – the delay is probably because it’s Network Rail property, not the Council, so it will have been passed on but Network Rail may not be acting as quickly as we’d like.

    Hi Ian,

Some time street art can take great form. Perhaps one wall of the underpass could remain a dedicated as a graffiti zone?

      Hi Richard,

I’m a big fan of graffiti as an art form – in the right place of course. None of this remotely fits that category but I agree and if any artists were interested in working locally I’d be happy to work with them to find a suitable ‘canvass’.

I’d like to nominate a suitable “canvas in Cheadle….the forgotten alleyway between the Post Office Gatley Rd businesses. My question once more I Why cannot something be done to screen off this “thing of beauty” on one of the busier footpaths in the village….
