Have your say on the future of Stockport Homes

by Lib Dem team on 5 July, 2014

The Council is conduction what’s called an “options appraisal” on the future of Stockport Homes, the organisation that manages the council’s social housing stock (and does a lot more besides).

The main options are to keep the housing stock managed by Stockport Homes or to bring it back “in house” to be run internally by the Council as used to be the case in years gone by.

If you are a Stockport Homes tenant, you should have your say.

You can join the Facebook group to discuss the options.

Take a look at the Stockport ITA website.

For Cheadle Stockport Homes tenants there will be a presentation and meeting in the communal lounge at Oak Tree Court (off Oak Road) at 3pm on 29th July 2014, then again at 6pm, same date, same venue.

I’m all for tenants having a big say in this – after all, we’re talking about their homes. But are there any implications for taxpayers who are not residents? I know the trend in recent years has been to “outsource” social housing to housing associatons and other arms length agencies. I understood this to be a device to dodge round spending restrictions by the last Tory government and carried on by Labour. Have things changed?

I am in favour of Stockport Homes continuing to manage the housing stock, I think they do a good job, and I am speaking as a Landlord who rents flats to Stockport Homes.
