Thank you to Coffee Fix, Gatley’s first Community Toilet

by Lib Dem team on 11 August, 2014

A few years ago Stockport Council moved from old-style public toilets to Community Toilets across much of the town.

Public toilets have some benefits but they’re expensive to run, frequently left in poor condition or out of order and were often a magnet for crime and anti-social behaviour.

The community toilet scheme pays pubs, restaurants and cafes to open their toilets to the public. In Cheadle, where the old toilet block was closed, we have three community toilets (the Star Inn, Jackson’s Supper Bar and Cheadle Library).

In Gatley we had more of a problem. The old toilet block in Gatley Rec had closed many years before so we weren’t losing a toilet, but we had hoped to gain one. Unfortunately, at the time the Council wasn’t able to find anyone to take it on – for various sensible reasons.

We’re very glad to say that Coffee Fix have now agreed to become Gatley’s first Community Toilet. They’ll be paid by the Council to allow the public to use their toilet.

Coffee Fix offers a shared unisex toilet and baby changing facilities, they are open seven days and their opening times are as follows.

Monday to Wednesday 09:00 to 16:30
Thursday to Saturday 09:00 to 23:00
Sunday 09:00 to 16:30

To those wishing to ‘spend a penny’ – good luck – squeezing past the ‘peloton’ of sweaty cyclists who ‘peddle their trade’ there !

Well done and such a good community spirit to do this.

Was n’t there a toilet block adjacent to The Horse and Farrier until a few years ago?Was that land too valuable not to flog off?

  5. Paula Isherwood says:

There was a toilet block adjacent to The Horse and Farrier but it was closed down about twenty five years ago after a very serious accident when a toilet bowl collapsed.
