Cheadle Mosque food bank

“Caring for our neighbours and those that need our help is a priority for us” says Abid Khan, the deputy Imam of Cheadle Mosque. “It is for this reason that we have established a Food Bank at the Mosque for those whom are struggling financially.”

Cheadle Mosque based in Heald Green has been established since 2003, it has for a number of months been a Food Bank collection point; attendees have regularly been dropping off food for distribution in other Food Banks, but now the Mosque will distribute food directly to those in need. Those that need a helping hand will be referred to the Mosque via a voucher system through Healthcare or Social Support providers, they will receive a pack of food that will last them for at least three days.

“The team is very excited about the project” added Mubasshar Mushtaq, a pharmacist by trade but who has given much of his free time to drive Cheadle Mosque’s newest initiative. “Charity begins at home! It’s not always visible but there is a growing number of families in need, being able to help others whatever their faith or background is what we are all about” he added.

Good luck to the CMA Cheadle Mosque for providing a great Food Bank service to the whole of the local community . As a charity , they don’t always get appreciated by the people at large locally for all the contributions they make to people of all backgrounds , race and religion etc.
Let’s give cooperation and friendship a chance to help each other to make a better community for all.

Well done Cheadle Mosque, FOOD BANK is an excellent project and will grow fast, helping all those in need.
Cheadle Mosque has to be congratulated, for yet another good work for the local community.

The culture of helping those in need in this country is alive and a great example to others,The donations this weekend to Children in Need show this and I am sure that the Band Aid efforts to help those suffering in areas of ebola will be another example of what us Brits do best. These are high profile examples but the efforts of schemes like the Cheadle Mosque are in some respect a fine example of how local people come together in the aid of those less fortunate.
Well done to the Mosque and all those involved you should be very proud.

Excellent news about the new food bank from the Mosque in Heald Green. I work at Cheadle citizens advice (CAB) and we distribute vouchers for other Stockport based food banks to people in often desperate need. Does anyone involved with CMA know if CAB will be included in the organisations distributing your food bank vouchers?

    Many thanks

    • Abid Khan says:

      Hi Wendy

Please give us a call on 0161 437 1093. We are more than happy to provide vouchers to Cheadle Citizens Advice Bureau.

      Regards

      Abid

And I suppose it will help with the next planning application…

    • Shanaz Alam says:

Not really Alan unless you know something !

    • Ian says:

Mr Gent, Your remark here gives no credit to the people of the Mosque in their act of charity to all people irrespective of religion or race and I hope the Liberal democrat councillor who monitors this forum removes your comments .

    • Iain Roberts says:

Alan – happy to say that no, it can make no difference at all to any future planning application and – having had discussions with the Cheadle Muslim Association – I know that they are well aware of how the planning system works.

  7. Shanaz Alam says:

Well done – help for all the community by locals all willing to help one another irrespective of race, colour or religion.

    • Iain Roberts says:

      Hi Neil,

You can be referred to a foodbank by a number of agencies but you can’t just turn up. I suggest you visit your local Citizens Advice Bureau who will be able to help.
