Former Labour Parliamentary Candidate backs Lib Dems to win

by Lib Dem team on 12 March, 2015

Offerton Cllr Laura Booth is backing Lisa Smart to win on May 7th.

“Only the Lib Dems can beat the Tories here”, says Laura.

Councillor Laura Booth was Labour’s first choice Parliamentary Candidate here until last Autumn, when she quit Labour, and is now backing Lisa Smart to beat the Tories.

“As the former Labour Prospective MP for Hazel Grove Constituency and Labour councillor for Offerton I’ve made a decision to back Lisa Smart in the election on May 7th. I resigned from the Labour Party last year because it has completely lost its way locally.

Laura is backing Lisa Smart, the Liberal Democrat candidate in the General Election. “Lisa is a hardworking candidate with the experience to deliver. It really is a two horse race in this constituency and only Lisa can stop the Conservative.

The very last thing we need now is a full-on Tory government putting our NHS at risk. I’ve spoken to Lisa Smart and I’m backing her to stop the Conservatives and keep our NHS safe.”

Cllr Booth also announced that she is backing Cllr Wendy Meikle to win in her ward of Offerton.

“I’ve been impressed by Wendy’s hard work for Offerton for the past eleven years, and I am pleased to be working with her for local residents. I want Labour voters to back Wendy in the Council Election to make sure she can go on delivering for our area.”

If it has always been such a two horse race in Hazel Grove why did Laura Booth seek and accept the Labour Party nomination as PPC and didn’t she stand against Wendy in Offerton last time Wendy was up for re-election. Could her change of heart have anything to do with Laura being up for re-election next year?

Hi Charlie – Offerton ward, where Laura is a councillor, is always a close fight between the Lib Dems and Labour. I’ve spoken to Laura many times and I am certain her decision to leave Labour was due to her concerns about bullying in the local Labour party and her feeling that Labour was not working in the interests of local people.

Nonsense, she resigned because Cllr Paul Moss, her partner, was deselected in North Reddish. It is rewriting history to claim otherwise.

        • Iain says:

Sorry, Gerard, but that’s just your version. Had Labour agreed to an investigation of the claims of bullying I’d have a little more sympathy with you view, but they’ve always refused point blank to hold any sort of investigation. I do, by the way, know of a number of very specific allegations about particular incidents which I would hope could be considered by a proper investigation.
