Cllr Keith Holloway hands in the petition to Barclays

Cllr Keith Holloway hands in the petition to Barclays

This week Keith handed in the community petition against Barclays plan to close the last bank in Gatley. It had over a thousand signatures – a fantastic show of support and we would all like to thank everyone who has got involved.

Barclays have agreed to meet Keith and they are agreeing a date to meet up in the next few weeks. Keith’s aim is to get Barclays to reconsider closing the branch.

That’s great ..hope it stays open…just a pity the council didn’t put as much energy into trying to prevent the HSBC Bank in Cheadle from closing too.

  2. Arthur Lampkin says:

Well done Keith, you had done a great job.

If Barclays still want to close their branch, is there any possiblity of the building being shared by a number of banks, each at least having a cash machine installed?

With the closure of HSBC in Cheadle customers now have to travel to Stockport to reach a HSBC ATM.

I hope the petition to re-establish Cheadle railway station is even more successful and wonder whether some prominent posters in Cheadle High St., would help as I guess not everyone sees this useful on-line facility. How’s it going?

Hurrah but I don’t hold my breath that he will get anywhere. I spoke to the Complaints Department at the bank and it was obviousl that the decision has been made and that the Bank would not go back on it. I really hope you are successful.

If you look at this from an economic point of view. If you don’t have the customer footfall through the door you cant pay the staff, rent, business rates etc. Hence Barclays deciding to close. 1000 signatures won’t change an economic decision.

It’s far better to get a business that works in this unit. No doub’t it will become part of Gatley Tandori.

I really hope Barclays stays open or, at least moves to smaller premises locally if Barclays feel footfall is not enough to warrant wages of staff/upkeep of building etc….
