Rachel Wallace, head of the We are Stockport campaign, writes:

We think Stockport deserves to shine

Stockport gets a bad wrap sometimes, and frankly, we can’t see why. From where we’re sitting, we’ve got a lot to be proud of, whether it’s our people and places, our heritage and sporting prowess, our community spirit, our iconic landmarks or our thriving business landscape. Sat between the Peak District, the Cheshire Plain and the UK’s fastest growing city, Stockport is filled with award winning businesses, exciting developments and passionate people.

We are Stockport is a new publishing platform – a spotlight for any Stockport story you want to tell.  Within just one month live over 7,000 people have visited We are Stockport, increasing by the day.

Want to be one of the leading voices for your community? You absolutely can be.

Have you got a great story to tell? A story that reflects a service, a person or a place that is one of Stockport’s treasures, and maybe at the moment is a hidden gem that deserves to shine? Place Campaign Manager, Rachel Wallace, is always on the look-out for stories and events that reflect the core values of We are Stockport’s campaign – that we are a place that is proud, skilled, independent and connected.

You can get in touch with Rachel at news@wearestockport.co.uk. Spread word of the new publishing platform www.wearestockport.co.uk and send your stories, news, events and photographs to Rachel to help build the campaign that is all about saluting the brilliant people and places that make Stockport a great place. It’s about time we blew our own trumpet!

Getting a story over to us is a matter of sending a single email to us, and you can find a link to do so at the bottom of every page of our website. It’s really as simple as that.

We are Stockport, and you are too!

Would be better if she knew how to spell ‘rap’.

The ‘Stockport Home Library Service’ ,which is part of the Stockport Library Service, delivers books ( Large & ordinary print) DVDs, CDs, & talking books to people in the Stockport borough who are housebound and not able to get to their local Library. This is manned by staff from the Home Library Service, helped by volunteers.

She mentions that she cannot understand why Stockport gets a ‘bad wrap’. Has she not visited the town centre recently – it is a tip and lacking any investment. Quite frankly i think that Primark is keeping Stockport open.
