Up to 1996 in my review of Stockport’s local election results from 1974 onwards, and a fourth future MP arrives on the scene as Mark Hunter is elected in North Marple. Andrew Stunell, Anne Coffey and Patsy Calton all spent time as Stockport councillors before taking their places in Westminster too.
Another good year for the Lib Dems in the dog days of Major’s Conservative government saw the Lib Dem Pam King win East Bramhall by just 23 votes and Suzanne Wyatt win comfortably in West Bramhall. Both are still councillors, but in different wards.
Dave White took Cale Green and Mark Weldon won in Davenport, both standing for Labour.

Your comments about the East and West Bramhall results don’t correspond to the figures given – are you on the right year?
I often find it very difficult deciphering the security words which need to be typed before the system allows me to send a comment and have more than once given up the effort. Stopping spam is one thing, but this system is over the top!
These are the 1995 results repeated.
