Cheadle Area Committee 9th Dec 2014 report back

by Lib Dem team on 9 December, 2014

We published  the agenda for Cheadle Area Committee of 9th December 2014 here.

This is our report back on the issues discussed and decisions taken.

  • Planning application 56291 for a 50 seater stand at Cheadle Heath Sports Club was approved. The stand will measure about 5m x 3m x 3m and includes wheelchair seating.
  • Planning application 56810 for an extension to 173 Stanley Road, Heald Green was recommended for approval. Because the house is in the green belt it will go to the full Planning & Highways Committee for a decision in January.
  • We had an update on the three parts of the SEMMMS road schemes from Jim McMahon at Stockport Council. The A6 to Manchester Airport Relief Road is moving ahead, and we are now waiting for the outcome of the public enquiry into compulsory purchase orders. The Poynton Relief Road (a Cheshire East scheme that passes through Woodford) is being proposed with a revised alignment that takes it across the landing strip at the Woodford Aerodrome. A6 to M60 (Bredbury) section of the bypass is being discussed: the Highways Agency wants to sell properties it owns along the route and the Council is in negotiations to buy them.
  • We approved moving to the next stage in Warren Avenue residents parking. A clear majority of residents have said they want it, and council officers have confirmed it meets the criteria for residents parking 8am-6pm Monday-Saturday. The proposals will now be legally advertised and, if there are no objections, will proceed.
  • We agreed to sell land at the end of Brookfield Road to the existing tenant – no change of use is planned.

  1. Estelle Weiner says:

Brookfield Road has two ends, doesn’t it? Which end?

  2. Iain Roberts says:

It’s the park end – the land in question is currently fenced off as part of the grounds of the business there, you wouldn’t know it was council land from looking (I certainly didn’t).

  3. Anthony Salt says:

I take it the A6 to M60 at Bredbury “being discussed” means it will never now be built or are the Council planning to buy the properties the Highways Agency no longer want/need in order to progress the scheme?

  4. Les Leckie says:

Warren Avenue, another reduction in the value of the road fund licence. Will drivers who regularly park there get a rebate?

  5. janet holmes says:

Hello Cllr Roberts…..Having followed the Resident Parking situation over recent months I would like you to tell me where does it say that there is now another stage in this process?

  6. Iain Roberts says:

    Hi Janet,

It’s always been the case that, when a scheme is finalised so residents know exactly what they’re getting and how much they have to pay for it, over 50% of households have to sign up.

    • Janet Holmes says:

Hello again. you didn’t answer my question ….where does it explain this next stage …the residents are aware of what is available and the costs incurred , we have already completed this stage. 33 of the 61 households answered in the affirmative which is why the officers took the decision to recommend. Janet Holmes

      • Iain Roberts says:

        Hi Janet,

You could be right – I’m not sure what residents have been asked to agree, but if residents have had all the details then rather than being asked to agree again the legal order will be advertised so that anyone can object to it if they want to. If there are no objections it would go ahead, if there are any objections then it comes back to councillors to consider.
