You’ve told us litter in our parks is a serious problem, so Lib Dem Stockport is putting in 50 new bins, replacing damaged dog waste bins and the old-style open top bins that allow litter to blow out.
The new bins should increase capacity and will hopefully be better used and more effective, reducing the amount of litter in our parks.
Remember:
Fantastic. Where?
For the last few weeks the bin on the Scholes Field play area has been dismantled over night and emptied all over the place. The metal inside bin has been removed, filled with paper and set alight. Wouldn’t it be more effective to prevent this vandalism than to spend a great deal of money on new bins which might well suffer the same fate. Fires have also been lit on the cricket squares, and on one occasion a blue wheelie bin was melted in the middle of a square.
Hi Anne – if you spot vandalism like that, please report it to the Police by calling 101. You’re quite right that we want to prevent that sort of vandalism, but a small number of criminals shouldn’t stop us improving the bins across the area.
Just find it odd that only last week our request for more bins in the Gatley parks resulted in a load of negative responses. Now this!!
Putting in additional bins has the issue I raised John – the cost of emptying them. This is about looking at what can be done to improve the bins without loading up additional costs for emptying.
