Going the wrong way up Gatley Green? Really?

by Lib Dem team on 22 December, 2015

We’ve had reports of several drivers going the wrong way up the one-way section of Gatley Green. Apparently they “didn’t see the signs.”

Here’s what they “missed”.

gatley green one way

We think there are two possibilities. Either these people are simply lying and chose to drive the wrong way up a one-way street. Or they have such poor awareness of what’s going on around them that they should immediately surrender their driving licences for the safety of themselves and others.

Possibly the same drivers who seem to have a casual disregard for the double yellow lines around the area.

And those who consistently turn right onto Mton Crescent from High Grove Rd on the wrong side of the road!!
    There is a section of
    Society that simply doesn’t care.

….and those speeding down Stonepail Rd and Church Rd at 50+mph in a 20 mph zone and almost knocking people over.

It is however, IMHO, bizarre that the one was is the direction it is. The hedge means that you cannot park neatly and snug. Either the parking should be on the other side (but I am sure the homeowners would be against that), the one way should be the other way so that the driver can park tightly and still get out, or the hedge should be removed (again probably unpopular).

Same folk turn from Wilmslow Rd, Cheadle into Chapel St and Brooklyn Rd and turn right from Massie St into the High St. They “didn’t see the signs”, except they did and ignored them to save themselves inconvenience. They also park in the bus embayments, because they’re too lazy to walk from the car park to use Tesco or the cash machine. These are the people who, though able bodied, use the disabled bays as “they’ll only be a couple of minutes”. Just plain selfishness. Probably not that dangerous because of the low speeds involved, but very irritating to the law-abiding majority.

I saw one of the Massie Street right-turners only the other day. Only the idiot couldnt fully turn right, because of traffic, so ended up blocking High St westbound. There’s another word to describe this sort of person – but “idiot” will have to do for a public view.

I nearly crashed into a car that was speeding down that road in the WRONG direction. So dangerous and the driver had the cheek to look incredulous that I was driving down that road in the right direction. During the really bad traffic before Xmas I witnessed 2 cars trying to avoid the traffic jam in Gatley. They knew exactly what they were doing, queue jumping!!

Another example of selfish driving is queuing on the road clearly marked “KEEP CLEAR”.
They are not gaining anything, simply adding to traffic jams !!!
