Over a hundred signs advertising a “charity car wash” have been removed from streetlights and lampposts around Stockport. They were put up illegally, without permission. The sign material was wrong and the signs slipped down in the rain, often obscuring visibility.

The same company has been putting up signs in East Cheshire, Trafford and elsewhere. Council officers are speaking to the company.

With a small number of exceptions (mainly approved advertising on roundabouts), signs should never be attached to street furniture like traffic lights, bollards, streetlights and railings. If you see any – which we do on a regular basis – please report them to the Council by emailing streetscene@stockport.gov.uk.
